Preliminary Layout

 Portfolio Project Preliminary Layout

Masthead: Marigold!

Cover:

  • Main image: Undecided, but will feature a girl, she will take up most of the page. Image wll have many colorful, bright elements and the girl will be in trendy, stylized indie streetwear.

  • Typography/font: For masthead: In Shrikhand font, (either 60pt or 72pt), “Marigold!” in white lettering. Shrikhand font is chunky and has a vintage feel, but is also vintage enough to be trendy and looks appealing as masthead. Merriweather font for coverlines in 24pt size. Merriwheather is a font a bit taller and wider than Times New Roman, and looks less cold and businesslike; it compliments Shrikhand well. Color depends on image, but will most likely be black or white for visibility.

  • Masthead: Takes up about the top 6th of the magazine, might cover up part of the girl in the main image

  • Selling Line: “The Gold In All of Us”

Feature article:

  • Title: The College Rush

  • Content: A guide with various tips on how to survive various stages of the college process. There will be sections titled “Getting Admitted”“You Made It!” and “The First Year” that give advice on the admissions process, preparing for the college move, and tips on how to navigate your first year of college respectfully. Information will be presented in bullet points, with a larger first sentence summarizing the point, and the more detailed advice in a normal font size. There will be various images related to each section dispersed in the article to make it more engaging and aesthetically pleasing.

Content Page:

  • Styling: Marigold font for titles, in the background will be an image with the same sort of feel and colors as the main cover image, and the text will overlay on it
